TRANSITIONING (RE: HOW TO GO NATURAL)

This is a follow up to our post from two days ago about How to Go Natural. Today we’ll be discussing the process of Transitioning, which is a very important step when you decide to go natural.

Transitioning is alternative to big chop, your relaxed hair can never become natural again it's either your trimming it off after a while or it breaks off. No matter where you are along the transitioning timeline, the main idea is to keep your hair protected, because it is very fragile.‎

Here are some tips to help you in your journey from relaxed hair to natural hair;

1: Continue to treat your hair and trim the ends consistently.

2: Moisturize and deep condition on a regular basis.

3: Use sulfate-free and silicone-free hair products.

4: Detangle only while wet from ends to roots with a wide-toothed comb.
5: Use protective styling such as scarves, weaves, braids and/or extensions to avoid breakage and rough handling.
6: ‎‎Do not straighten or hot comb new and old hair textures together. It will lead to breakage and heat damage to the new growth.

7: Avoid the use of plenty hair products‎.
8: Be patient, in case of difficulty ask question and do research, with time you would know what work best works for you (product and regime).

‎In response to your questions from the How to Go Natural post, here are some answers, hope they’re satisfactory. And if you have any more questions please let us know in the comments section below.

@calabar girl: Use your normal conditioner but make sure its sulphate free.

@ginika: Transitioning depends on you, when you feel your hair is due enough to cut of the relaxed part.

@Hawa: Avoid heat stretchers. It kills the hair.

@Naijachik: The answer to your question is yes. And don’t forget to seal with butter or oil of your choice to seal in the moisture.

That’s all for today folks and until next time stay fashionable and GBF Always…..

  1. lol at the no heat policy. I’ve been transitioning for about three months now and it has been hard for me to put that hot comb down, until it blew up on me a few days ago. I guess that’s a sign, haha! No more heat for me!

I’m starting my transition – 3 months into the change. I work out daily and vigorously. What hairstyles can I do that will stay while working out?

  3. Hi this post is gonna help me a lot. I decided to go natural and long-term transition four months ago and although I’ve found styles that work for my hair texture (I thought this was gonna be my biggest problem) de tangling my hair after washing it is a struggle and has caused breakage because its so tangled. Great post.
