WHAT TO WEAR ON THAT FIRST DATE

First dates are quite important as they set a first impression of you. As it turns out, what to wear on a first date actually matters, more than any of us probably want to admit. Well we’ve got you covered as we’re here to provide some very important tips on how to dress up for that first date and make the best impression.

Dress For The Appropriate Occasion.
You're probably not going to want to be super dressed up for a casual date. On the other hand, you probably don't want to show up to a fancy restaurant wearing your old jeans and yesterday's t-shirt. Know what type of date it's going to be, before you make any fashion plans.
1.
For a low-key casual date like going to the movies, wear some nicer variation of what you normally wear. So for instance, if you tend towards jeans and a t-shirt, make sure you're wearing your nicest jeans and a nicer t-shirt (or a nice jacket over your t-shirt). If you wear skirts and flats mostly, stick with that, but wear something a little fancier than normal.
2.
For a really fancy occasion (like a dinner at a nice restaurant or similar) a nice black dress, with nice shoes, and some jewellery will do you well.
3.
Shoes depend on the date as well. A nice pair of flats can either dress up or dress down, depending your outfit and are a great versatile and comfortable choice of footwear. Only wear heels if you're comfortable doing so and aren't in danger of keeling over with every step you take.

Make Sure You're Comfortable.
There's nothing worse than being on a first date and having to constantly fiddle with your shirt or your skirt because it feels too tight, or it's constantly riding up, or you're wearing something that makes you feel like you have to suck it in. You'll feel uncomfortable and awkward and that feeling will be communicated to your date.
1.
Avoid testing out a new fashion trend on a first date no matter how flattering it looks in the magazine. You should also try and avoid wearing new clothes on a first date, since you won't have broken them in yet and gotten accustomed to them.
2.
Also, wearing what makes you comfortable will give your date an idea of how you normally dress and you'll avoid any unnecessary surprises along the way, so they aren't shocked when all you ever wear is jeans and a t-shirt, because you wore a dress on the first date.
 3.
Again, it's important to not wear shoes that you're uncomfortable in. If you can't walk well in heels just say "no" and opt for a pair of nice, dressy flats. Also, don't test out a new pair of shoes on your first date. Chances are your feet won't thank you.

Don’t Reveal Too Much.
First impressions are quick to be made, and set the tone for the entire date. Ask yourself what your outfit says about you. There’s a difference between wanting to look sexy and leaving nothing to the imagination. You don’t want to seem too trashy or desperate. That doesn’t mean you need to dress down or frumpy, you can cover up and still look sexy.
1.
For example if you’re going to wear a short skirt, don’t wear a low cut top.
2.
One good rule of thumb is to choose one area of your body you want to reveal, you want to emphasize one specific feature but not reveal all of your body.
3.
If you're showing off some cleavage with a tight, low-cut top, opt for a looser fitting, longer bottom trousers or a skirt, so that only your cleavage is emphasized. Likewise, if you're wearing a short skirt to show off those lovely legs of yours, wear a top that doesn't draw attention to your bosom.

An outfit that emphasizes your features but doesn't reveal too much.

Show off one sexy part of your body at a time as opposed to showing it all.

Be Unique.
While you probably don't want to be so out there that you overwhelm your date for your first date, making sure that you have a flare of uniqueness will help them remember the date well and be more interested in getting to know more about you.
1.
Find something that makes you stand out from the crowd a bit. This is where accessories are especially useful, as you can put on a funky pair of earrings or a particularly dashing scarf or fun leggings to give yourself some individuality.

Example of accessories that can add that Unique touch to your outfit.

Employ Your Best Style.
For a first date, you don't have to have perfect hair and make-up you might not even wear make-up if you don't want to, but whatever you do choose to wear and put on that help enhance your natural beauty, and show your artistry, make sure you're giving it your best shot.
1.
If you're wearing make-up, make sure to do your favourite style. Another good rule of thumb is to pick one feature emphasize. For example, wearing neutral eye make-up and bright, crimson lipstick, or super awesome eye make-up to show off your lovely eyes with just a little lip balm for your lips.
2.
Nails aren't necessary to have done for a first date, but it can be a nice little boost for you. Match them to your outfit, or paint them in bright vivid red to match your killer lips! They're fun and can give you a little extra confidence and style.
3.

Style your hair. Amp it up a bit by adding a cute headband or clip, or by adding a little more volume than normal.

  1. Love this post, I liked the point on not revealing too much, so many girls make that mistake and give guys the wrong impression. If you want someone to take you seriously then dress classy and not trashy. So do guys in general prefer heels or flats? Or do they even notice?

  4. For once a blog that suggests you were shoes you’re comfortable with. All these other sites usually pressure you into wearing heels for that date even if you’re not comfortable in them. I would rather wear flats than fall over and embarrass myself on a first date or be grouchy because I have sore feet. Good job on the post; you’re a correct high fashion blogger jare.

    1. Yhh I totally agree with you. Ms pamo is so right on that aspect. I think it is practical to wear low heels or flats so that you are prepared to walk around and be spontaneous, especially the first few dates.

  5. Good post and I’m with you on not revealing too much at all. I myself prefer a more modest appearance and while I may on occasion wear a mini skirt or small amount of cleavage, it is not on a first date.
